The Garfagnana
Garfagnana is the
ideal place to spend
a great holiday
having the
possibility to
satisfy different
kinds of needs.
Among the other
things, we have a
lot of old villages
to visit and enjoy,
and several events,
which take place all
the year around:
from gastronomic to
folk-festivals, from
cultural events to
the open-air
theatre-like
performance called
“Maggio”, an ancient
tradition, which was
the only amusement
for country people.
In our valley, you
can enjoy both easy
footpaths for
walking and hiking
and the hard
rock-faces of Apuan
Alps.
“La Grotta del
Vento” and “L’Antro
del Corchia”
absolutely worth a
visit, being two
karst caves among
the most interesting
in the world, to be
visited for most of
the year.
Other important
places to visit are
our museums, as the
“Museo della Civiltà
Ligure” in
Castelnuovo di
Garfagnana, the
ethnography museum
of “Civiltà
Contadina” in San
Pellegrino in Alpe
and the house of the
poet Giovanni
Pascoli in
Castelvecchio
Pascoli, in the
surroundings of the
wonderful town Barga.
We also have several
medieval fortresses,
which are peculiar
of many villages in
the Serchio valley.
Our cooking is very
well-known and
appreciated for its
traditional features,
at a time simple and
creative. We use the
products of our farm,
always following our
gastronomic
tradition, even if
you can taste new
dishes as well.
From here, you can
easily reach the
most important
sightseeing in
Tuscany such as
Lucca, Pisa,
Pistoia, Florence or
Siena (about 45/55
minutes to Lucca and
some more than 2
hours to Florence
and Siena).
